Repair: 'to restore something damaged to its original beauty'

 

While I was visiting Amsterdam with the University we were told to collect objects in disrepair. Once we'd returned we were told to give the object we'd chosen a new lease of life. 

 

Pablo Goldstein was the artist behind this project so he's where I began my research, he restored object but made them very individual with extra opponents the second time round. I was going to use thisa idea with my piece. 

 

I had brought back an old bike gear, I felt it was very fitting as cycling is the main method of transport in the netherlands. I did not however have anyway of creating a bike or restoring it to anything similar to its original use. I asked around and my peers suggested that it looked like the cogs within an old clock face. So I collected more pieces of bike from a local bike store 'Locks of Sandwich Cycles' and welded a clock together.
