Nomad Project
'Nomad: A person with no fixed residence who roams about; a wanderer.'
We were set a two week brief titled 'Nomad', based on the principles of a wanderer we were tasked to create a portable shelter. The range of what to shelter varied from our mobile phone to entire body. I researched Nomads and decided to focus on how i could create shelter for them, a whole body house, a manmade version of natures snail.
The top photo to the left demonstrates a group task that inspired the developement for my shelter. I realised nomads like any other humans have families and children and therefor parents most likely would want to share shelter. This led me to design a two person or more tent.
I came up with the idea of two any size fits poncho, they then unfasten down the sides and using the rope and tent pegs in the ponchos feature large pockets you can create a two man tent between two trees. The design included thwo possible other developments, one that had an inflatable structure so it wouldnt need anything other that the poonchos to create shelter and the second was a standard tent pole structure.
These ideas were also inspired by the armys connection tents in the world wars but mine are simplified and could possibly house multiple people at once.
